.NET 1.1 vs. 2.0

I haven't worked with 2.0 so I am not sure if migrating our existing code from 1.1 to 2.0 will inject lots of significant defects. Could anyone tell me, to their knowledge, if there is backwards compatability? The primary things we are concerned about is the Text Masking for our existing masks and Serial Port handling for the devices our application has to interface with. This migration is supposed to happen in our next development cycle but I'm supposed to evaluate the possible impacts of switching to 2.0. Any help or leads would be appreciated.
