.NET 1.1 & .NET 2.0?

The .NET Framework is a lot like Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE). You only need to install it if you're going to run applications written in .NET. ATi's Catalyst Control Panel uses the .NET Framework, for instance.

As for which version, I'm not sure. 2.0 is fairly new, and there aren't that many applications written in it yet. It's supposed to be backward-compatible with 1.1, but I've heard that there are inconsistencies. You can run both side-by-side without any issue. Install the version you need for the application you want to run. If you aren't using any .NET apps, don't worry about installing the Framework.
