we have quail all over our yard but I've never seen a nest. Probably cause my dumb neighbor has like 4 cats.

Yup this killdeer built a nest on my grandpa's farm, right in the middle of his gravel driveway. Their nests and eggs are on the GROUND, and he had to put a bucket in front of it so nobody runs it over. Sometimes makes me wonder about Darwinism...

I don't think so. They seem to have more colors and more of a pattern, even in the females. Still looks like a California Quail. And since I'm in Southern Oregon, I think that's pretty likely.
