Nervous about my first day of work tomorrow

Tomorrow is my first day of work at my first "real" job. The internal recruiter called me today and left me a message saying that they have a day planned out for me which includes assigning me a laptop and taking me out to lunch. I'm shaving my beard tomorrow morning because I'm afraid it doesn't look professional. Also, they said to dress business casual, even when I am on client site, but I'm considering wearing a suit tomorrow just in case...what do you guys think?

For your first day, wear khakis with a solid colored button down and a blazer. Suit not necessary unless that is what everyone else wears..

first day means you wont do sht. get a laptop, sit around twiddling your thumb, wanting to surf the web but afraid they'll find out and axed you.

I agree. You dont' want to be one of "those" guys. Just wear a really nice shirt...maybe blazer and a really nice pair of slacks with nice shoes. Suit is too much. No tie either.

Hahaha, sounds like my first couple days at my internship. I spent a good week staring at the windows explorer icon on my desktop before I got the balls to open it and start a bad habit of neffing at work. I would be on the internet for 7 hours of my 8 hour days. I did this for my entire internship which lasted a year.

I'll agree with everyone else here. Don't do the suit... I know of a few guys at work who have their choice of first-day attire immortalized on their badge photos.

You don't want that.

Just make sure the woman is actually pregnant before asking what she is having and when is it due. ;)

Kidding.

Just wear khakis and a nice button-up. Shave, pluck your nose hairs, comb your hair, brush your teeth, and put on an extra swipe of deodorant.

It's a Thursday, I wouldn't necessarily say a tie is a bad idea. I'd probably go with khakis or slacks, a nice button down shirt, and a tie. No jacket.

I always wear a smart set of strides, proper shirt, and a tie ;)

Strides? Is that Aussie speak? Or do I live in a box?
:D

LOL... I hope the day goes by well. I'm waiting for summer to come--I can't wait. Things will slow down a lot, and I'll enjoy it. Plus I'll be bringing my laptop in and trying to learn some more VB.NET. And then the spring semester will begin, and the fun starts all over again.

i wouldn't wear a suit, but i sure as hell would look a little better than what they advise. When have you guys known a time that looking good was a bad thing?

Also, business casual would be dockers or slacks and a button up shirt. I would say you go in the first day with black slacks and a really nice shirt. If you feel comfortable with it, wear a blazer. You can always take that off if you feel overdressed.
