my life is sucking.

My pc reboots everytime I try to run Nero. Im using win XP. I just bought a new burner last night. I had previosly been using an old version of Nero that would work, but the new burner wouldnt get recognized. So I tried installing the past 3 versions of Nero. All of them reboot my PC about 5 seconds after I click on the icon.

what to do.. i dunno.. anyone got any info on this? this is not fun

Do you have the "automatic restart" option unchecked in the system control panel? I think it's under "System -> advanced -> startup and recovery options" or something like that. If you uncheck that, then you should get a BSOD instead of a reboot. The BSOD should give you some clue as to what is malfunctioning - or, just post the text of it here and I'm sure someone will be able to figure it out. 🙂

Good luck,
Nick

Well, my first thought is don't use Nero.

My second thought is that, gee, if it always happens when you use Nero, maybe they have an update for their software that fixes the problem. We have this thing called "the web" that you can use to investigate that from the comfort of your own home.

r u an idiot... first off this is the fvcking web.. second off read where i said "So I tried installing the past 3 versions of Nero" and finally i need to use nero because i have a collection of .nra cues that i need for my dj mixes

thanks for adding nothing to this thread

cooltechie what version of nero are you using? i would suggest you go here and download the latest version. then uninstall nero completely and reinstall it with the new version you get from the link i posted. that shoud solve it for you. i would also check your ASPI layer to see if it is installed correctly, you uninstalling and reinstalling nero may be screwing that up somehow.

yeah the drive shows up.. right now im getting "memory reference errors" when i try to run the new version of nero...

but the drive doesnt show up on the older version like 5.0.0 .. even when i load the new cd database file... im downloading SP1 beta for xp now..praying that will help something.. if not im debating doing a clean install because i need to burn cds this weekend..

any other suggestions im listening.. thanks

well i would suggest what you are leaning toward right now- format c: that will fix the problem for sure. i am currious, will any other burning software work or is it just nero?

yeah i tried roxio easy cd.. it will work for like half a cd then it hangs up...

i just bought a new burner.. i had the same nero reboot problem with the old burner, but you see i could use 5.0(which works) of nero because the CDR drive showed up, but with the new burner im forced to use a newer version of nero

oh well.. if you know of any other burning programs that will convert and track out mp3s on the fly let me know..

You've got Nero and EZCD installed at the same time? That's a recipe for disaster right there. They don't play well together. I'd uninstall EZCD and find some directions to remove EVERY bit of it from your registry and wherever (if that's even possible). Then do a fresh install of Nero.

My gut feeling is that you may get stuck having to reformat/reinstall your OS before it's all over. Just don't install both burning apps if you end up reformatting.

Do a little research on this if you don't believe me. It's been a known issue for a while.

i had a similar problem with my Lie-On 40x burner...i did a firmware update..and updated to the 5.5.9.0..and it solved my problem.
