What's the difference between making a VCD or just burning the mpeg file to a CD? When I make a VCD, Nero adds 5 directories to the disk that have no appearant function at all. I don't understand.

I don't know the particulars of the VCD format, but... with all the extra stuff on the disk you can play it in a DVD player. Without the extra stuff you can only view it on a computer.

The extra files it inserts are for when you insert the disc in your home DVD player (some home DVD players play the VCD format). If those files are not there your home DVD would not be able to recognise the disc.

Thanks. So for use only on the pc, the vcd format is useless it seems. I'll just burn the mpeg straight to a cd and skip the vcd format.
