Nero question (finalizing)

When Nero says "finalizing", what exactly does it do? When I burn a CD and it's close to 700MB (full), it says it can only burn if I finalize it or something.. Does this mean if it's not close to 700, like if I burn a 500MB cd, it doesn't "finalize"? What does it do? So far I've never had any problems but I'm just curious.

Once a CD is 'finalized', you can't add any more data to it. If it is not 'finalized', you can continue adding data until it is full. (multisession)

That makes perfect sense, thank you for the explanation. One more thing -- is this pertaining to regular (not RW) CD-Rs?

Yep, just regular CD-R's. The only downside to not finalizing is that some older readers can't read multisession discs but all of them made in the last 3-4 years should.

Ok, thanks. That would explain some things. I remember being able to write more than once on a regular CD-R before, and I couldn't figure out how it was possible or how I did it. Now I understand. Too bad CD-RW discs are so damn expensive compared to regular CD-Rs. I have ten Maxel CD-RWs and they're only 650MB, writing at only 4x! :| All my CD-Rs are 700MB and write at max speed (8x for me).

Anyway thanks for the help.
