Nero Not Detecting My CD-RW

Senior member
I installed Nero and when i choose cd recorder, all it had was a virtual device to burn an image. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but i still have this problem. I know my CD-RW is working because i have used CDs on it before. Also, my drivers are up to date.
My CD-RW is up to date with current drivers that I know DELL installed for me.
Here is my CD-RW model:

SONY CD-RW CRX216E

I have Nero 5

I bought the computer from DELL and they provided easy cd creator but i replaced a hard drive and i like Nero better. I have had this problem with my old computer as well but in that case I just replaced the cd-rw and then nero detected it.

I have DMA enabled on primary and seconadry IDE channels so what could be the problem?

Also, after installing Nero, my computer doesn't detect my CD-ROM drive (its on the secondary channel). But after uninstalling it does.

Please help

THANKS

But after uninstalling it does.
not quite sure what you mean by this , but did you check the jumper on the CD-ROM ? just like a hard drive , master / slave.
also exactly how are your drives configured ? how many ? what channels ?
good luck

Make sure you don't have a bundled version of Nero. If you got Nero along with a CDRW purchase, it is useable only with the brand of recorder that it came with. It will disable the use of other brands of recorder unless you upgrade it to a non-bundled version.

That version of nero probably doesn't support his writer. If he bought nero with another writer and its locked into that CDRW drive itself it will still display his new CD Writer but wont let him select it. My yamaha's nero will display my Sony DVD Burner but Its not highlighted and when I try to click it, it will give me a message that this will only work with Yamaha burners. Try downloading a newer version of nero off their website and use the demo function to see if it work with your burner.

Edit: Make sure you uninstall the version of nero you have installed now otherwise it will just upgrade the current one and it will still have your drives locked out.

I don't know if this is true anymore, but I was using Nero 5.5 that came with one of my CDRW. Then I upgraded to 52x writer that came with some other recording software that I don't like. So, I went out and bought a full version of Nero 5.5 and instead of reinstalling it I just use the "Enter new serial number" option. After entering the new serial number I was able to use my new recorder just fine.

I think the serial number determines whether your version of Nero is bundled or a normal version. When I say "upgrade", I meant upgrading to a normal Nero version by entering a new serial number.

Yes, because the serial no. locks the software to the drive. Changing the serial to the retail unlocks it for any drive.
