Nero MP3 Encoder Question

Maybe I'm a rock but how do I encode a CDA file into an MP3 file using Nero 5.024. I can find nothing in the help files that covers this and can no additional downloads on the Nero site to enable this plug-in. I've heard others post good things about this encoder and I want to try it for myself.

I don't think Nero encodes cda files into mp3s. I could be wrong though. I know Nero does convert mp3s to cda files when burning a music CD.

Hope you've already found the answer to your problem, but if not, here goes:

CDA is not really a file format - it's just how Windows refers to "CD Audio" tracks on an audio CD. They are essentially WAV files (although technically they aren't WAV files until they have been "ripped" from the CD to a hard disk). Nero will do the opposite of what you're talking about - it will convert WAV files to MP3 and burn them onto a CD. You need a program like MusicMatch to "rip" the CD audio tracks (CDA "files&quot from a CD and turn them into an MP3 file that you can use on your PC. I use MusicMatch and it offers a great balance between sound quality/speed and ease of use.

You can indeed use Nero to encode MP3's directly from your CD's to the hard drive. Just select CD-Recorder -> Save Track, select the source CD-ROM, and it will bring up a dialog box where you can select the desired tracks and save them as WAV, WMA, or MP3 format. If I'm not mistaken, the standard version of Nero has a limit on the number of MP3's you can rip before purchasing a license (or you can find the counter key in the registry, save it, and restore it whenever necessary).
