I recently did a full reinstall of XP Pro on my computer. All I have installed on it right now is Office XP and Nero. I bought a Liteon 40X-12X-48X burner yesterday, and installed it (to replace my 12X TDK). I installed the latest version of Nero (5.5.8.0) and tried to burn a CD. I can launch Nero, and get to the start screen (where you can select what type of CD you want to burn). Everything is fine until I try to scroll down on the list on the left side, I get almost to the bottom and then the system just freezes. I have tried this 5 times and every time it freezes in exactly the same spot. I have never had this problem with Nero and XP before, and the only thing different is the Liteon. I have checked and DMA is enabled (if available) and the drive is in DMA mode. I tried installing a previous version of Nero and I get the same results. Can anyone help? I have a brand new burner and can't use it!!!

Also try to disable the windows burning software.

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services > then right click on IMAPI Cd-Burning Com Service, go to properties disable.
