I have looked through some threads concerning this issue and all I could find was some stuff about DMA's which I don't even know what it is but my DVD drive is set to "Ultra DMA 4 - Ultra66". Hope someone can help me. Tonight was my 2nd DVD-R which was ruined.

Also after checking the disc I can see that there is something written on it .. Well it looks like there is .. It's different from a blank disc. Nero ROMs Disc Info also says there is stuff on it. All help is appreciated.

I had similar problems with Nero's data dvd burning tool. I love nero as a burning tool in general, but for a data back up, I could never get it to work.

However, in your case there is a rather nice "work around." You're wanting to back up anime episodes so I assume you're talking about your vids. Get yourself a copy of tmpgenc. Convert the files to 320 x 240 mpeg1 files using tmpgenc (assuming you're in the US and use NTSC). Then use tmpgenc's DVD AUTHOR software to make your menu and burn a LOW RESOLUTION dvd. You'll be pleasantly surprised on how many episodes you'll be able to fit on one disc. Also, you'll have a nice menu you can use when you play it in your dvd and watch your efforts on your tv.

Before anyone jumps me for suggesting you code 320 x 240 mpeg 1 files instead of the DVD compliant mpeg 2's ..... there's a reason behind this method. We're not trying to make one 2 hour movie on this DVD. We're trying to put as many episodes as we can onto one dvd. If you start with good quality files to begin with, you'll be tickled pink with your long playing, nice menu dvd that you can watch on your TV. With this method, you can get close to 6 hrs of movies on 1 standard dvd.

Yes that does sound good however most episodes are in Real Media Player Format (.rmvb) with only about 5% being .avi files. Do you know any other great burning programs I could try out just to burn a Data DVD?

I'm not a fan of real media formats due to the fact that real player to some is considered spyware. However, I googled up a tool that claims to convert real video files to mpegs and avi's. Since I haven't used the software, I cannot tell you if its any good. Its trialware though so you can give it a try before you decide to buy. You can find it HERE.

As for the rest of your question .... My experiments with burning a data dvd consisted of spending a few hours one night playing with nero's data dvd burning tool. Since then, I haven't even given it a try. Maybe someone else here will know a good data dvd burning tool.

I'm still thinking that if you can get a good quality conversion to a standard mpeg and then burn a low resolution dvd, you'll have a much more useful disk in the end than if you archived it on a data disk. Thats just my opinion ......

You're low quality mpeg dvd disc made a lotta sense I was just afraid that I wouldn't be able to convert the .rmvb files to mpeg or avi. Deal is that new episodes of the anime come out in 170mb avi files but once they get older the people convert them into .rmvb files so they can still host the files online and u can have like 3 .rmvb files where one 170mb .avi file was. I'll try the tool u posted .. currently my IPod does not update it'sself so I am posting on the Apple forums for some damn help .. i feel so dirty LOL.

Thanks for all the help!

Please let me know if that trialware software is any good. Also, if you have any more questions .... just ask. Someone here will likely know.
