Nero "Change of write speed" problem

i'm using Nero 5.5 and everytime i burn something, it changes the burn speed from 8x to 4x in the middle of the burn. it gives me "change of write speed due to media" message. i'm using 16X media so i don't know what's going on. is there an option to make it stay at 8x?

I don't think there is a way to make it stay at 8X. It always says because of the media, but I think it usually has more to do with the way you are burning. Are you doing it on the fly or saving to hard disk first? Are you seeing a decrease in buffer when it happens?

i don't see a change in buffer, i'm not burning on the fly, nor am i burning disk at once. i don't have the "test" nor the "determin maximum speed" checked. i just don't get it.
