Nero Burning Rom lock up...

I just started using Nero 5.3.8 and cannot get the program to work. I'm running a via chipset, PIII 667, 228 MB, and W98se. I start the burning process and it locks up imeediately trying to check the speed. My drive has been scanned and defragged. I have disabled my Norton Anti-Virus. The program worked once, but I stopped it once it was working (just testing). What could be causing it to lock up?

Do you have the Adaptec CD Creator software installed? Nero will lock up if you try to run it with the Adaptec software on the same machine. (at least it does for me and a couple friends)...Just a thought........
