What does Booktype DVD mean?

The option is checked when I am burning a regular DVD-R and not sure why.

Not saw this in older versions but just seeing this in the new version of Nero. Could not find any info about this in the manual and have searched the net pretty unsucessfully.

Please add to this question.

What is the difference between + and - r?

I was always told to get - r as it is more compatiable with more hardware.

But it seems more and more that + r is being sold more often and cheaper. I check ebay and 90% of media sold is + r. Can anyone please explain why if the above is true?

Thanks for help :)

Great info. Thank you Cheetah.

Still cant find what book type means though :/

Well actually I found some info and that may explain my problem. It is my understanding that Booktype makes a + type dvd look like a - type DVD when being used. If this is correct it may explain the problems I was having. I was getting a blank ring on the inside of my dvd-rs when burning them. This happened several times and I could not find out why. I tried different burning programs, different programs to create the dvd, etc. But every time it would have a blank ring just outside the inside ring where nothing burned. And each time the disk would not work.

Hmm... Thats an interesting problem... Were you burning a ripped DVD? Or was it a conversion of some type?
