NERO Burning Error!

I've tried burning a data CD twice so far, just 12 MPGs, for some reason after each burn it has bombed (at 100%) and said, could not perform fixation, current program area is empty. What does this mean?

The data is 649MB, so should fit on a normal CD, and I've burned plenty of other CDs fine.

More Info:

Burning at 2x with an HP 2/2/6
Not running anything else at the time.
Ran a test beforehand and the simulation completed normally.
I can read the files with the CD-RW, but I can't get a normal CD drive to read it.

Could this somehow mean that it thinks it is a multi-session write and didn't close the CD? I did choose Finalize when NERO prompted me.

Try burning something smaller... I think with something that close to the limit of the CDR (649MB), Nero has to finalize the CD cuz there's no more room left...

So try burning something smaller and see what happens...

I've experience the same thing before...if Nero explicitly prompts you to finalize the CD, it means it is very near the threshold of the CD's capacity. I don't know why it cannot recognize ahead of time that the burn will fail. Try reducing the compilation by 10MB or so and burn it again, or use a 700MB CD.

Try using clone cd it will make an exact copy of your curent cd so it should work. I dont know if it supports your burner though:confused:

Thanks for the suggestion guys, I'll try reducing the file size. Strange thing is I just burned other CDs with 650MB of data. Same kind of stuff too (I'm archiving a library of videos), they're being burnt on Gigastorage cds which haven't really given me any problems, unless they're the cause of this....

EDIT: Just rechecked the file sizes, I burnt a 650MB and 651MB CD each with MPGs on them and they burnt fine. The two that screwed up had 648MB and 649MB....strage

Floyd, when you say you got the same error, did you have the Current Program Area Empty error, or were you talking about the Finalize warning?

It has been a while, but I was actually referring to both "could not perform fixation" and "current program area is empty" errors, as they are related. I've seen this problem several times and in each case reducing the compilation size fixed it. It's an unusual error in that Nero recognizes that space is running out and suggests finalizing the CD, yet it cannot complete the operation.

Purely speculation here, but it may be related to the ATIP (absolute time in pre-groove) and how the specific drive's firmware deals with it. Case in point, I used to get this error with an HP9100 burner but to my knowledge haven't encountered it with a Plextor PX-R820T. HP's (and Sony's) support for overburning and even 80-min CD's is thin, which would account for why it bombs near the full capacity of the CD.

Best regards,
Floyd

Floyd: I did some file swapping around to get the CD size down and so far it's working like a charm! Strange though that it did work with some other compilations of a slightly larger size... methinks it's time to invest in a new burner :) Thanks again!
