NERO 6 Ultra - Can you burn across a network?

I'm buying a DVD burner soon and I would like to install it on my main machine. However, there's ALOT of stuff I need to backup on and old box....can NERO 6 Ultra burn across a network? Or some other burning app maybe?

As long as your burner has buffer-underrun protection you should be fine.

I burn over the network with both Nero 5.5 and EZCD Creator.

It will pause if the buffer gets emtpy, that could increase the burn time. I either move the burner to the machine with the files or copy the files to the machine with the burner first.

thanks guys. does it slow the burning way down?

You'll be limited by the transfer rate you're getting over the network.

8X DVD recording burns a full DVD in around 8 minutes, so roughly 9 MB per second. That's 72 mbit/s, or nearly the full capacity of a 100 mb switched connection.

You could probably get away with 2X, maybe 4, but I wouldn't try 8X.

A bit off topic here but I just got my DVD burner yesterday. What's a good proggy for ripping my DVD's so I can back them up?

BTW: I'm using Nero Enterprise Edition.

Rip with DVD Shrink (the beta version) and burn with NERO.

It'll be slow but then copying all the files over and then burning would be slower.

How much data?

about 100GB's....I think I'll install it on the old beast first, do the backup, then install on new machine.

forgot to ask this earlier....

With my DVD burner, I will be backing up my DVD collection. The burner is dual format so, which media should I buy? + or - ?
