Nero 6 failing to run in Vista 64

Nero (v6.6.0.19) installed without any problems on Vista Home Premium 64.
Yet, Vista will not let it run. Nero will start for a split second, then it will close and Vista will say that Nero Burning ROM is not compatible with this version of Windows.

I searched online and found several forum posts at various websites of users stating that Nero works perfectly fine with the exception of SmartStart. The versions of Nero mentioned to be working under Vista include the version I was working with.

So I go straight into the Ahead folder and try to run Nero. Still no luck. I set compatiblity mode to XP SP2. Didn't work. I selected run as administrator. That did not work either.

Went to Nero's website and downloaded updates and installed them. So now I am running version 6.6.1.4. No change. I repeated all the steps I tried before upgrading to the newer version without any luck. I even turned UAC off.

I keep seeing posts that people were/are able to use Nero 6 with Vista, yet none of those posts say how they were able to get it to work (posts refered to 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista). Maybe they didn't have to do anything, I don't know.

Some pieces of the installed Nero package do work. Back It Up, the cover designer, Nero Digital software, Drive Speed, and the info tool all seem to work with out any problems. Nero, Nero Express, and the Media player are the ones that will not run.

Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas?

By the way, the new drive I am using is a Samsung SH-S183L. If you want to/need to know any additional hardware, feel free to ask.

-Thanks

AFAIK, only the latest version of Nero 7 will even work on Vista.

Nero 6 is yesterday's news - especially for a 64-bit OS. Upgrade!

I did a little more 'digging' and it apears that the culprit is msa.dll.
Msa.dll is the Windows Media Audio plug-in.

I looked into upgrading briefly, but I do not want to spend $60 on a package/suit that comes with a hellofa lot more than I need.

If anyone knows of cheap/free CD/DVD writer software, please let me know.

OK
I'm having a hell of a time getting nero to work here on my Vista 32 install.
Can I get a hand? What's the correct way? I know this is short on details, but I just got back after a business trip of 2 months.

The "correct" way is to upgrade to Nero 7, even if you just bought a drive couple with Nero 7 Essentials and find out it doesn't work. I submitted a ticket and got a bs answer.
