Nero 6.3.0.2 locks up at "Checking Disc" in WinXP

I just upgraded my copy of Nero from 6 to 6.3.0.2 and now any time I try to burn anything, it just hangs when it gets to the "Checking Disc" part (right before it starts a burn) and it is not possible to kill the process.

Anyone had this happen before? Any ideas on how to fix?

I have an older burner (Mitsumi 4x) but it still works like a champ. This never happened before I upgraded to 6.3.
 
Ummm... I just bought a 52x Lite-On burner and my problem went away 🙂

So long old Mitsumi 4x... you treated me well
 
HA, that same ver of Nero fricken RESTARTS MY COMPUTER when I click the button to "analyze system" or whatever it is.

I wish I could just get Nero Burning Rom standalone app without all the extra crap in their ultra package.
