I just did a new Win2K system and after installing Nero 5.5.1.8 while in Administrator mode, I get this pop up:

Under Win2K burn rights are required by Nero to access cd recorders and cd-rom/dvd-rom drives. Please ask your system admin for permission to use Nero.

I get that while running as a "power User." I did grant full access to that "Power User" and still nothing (folder, sub-folders, files). I think I have seen this question come up once before, but I don't think it was answered.

BTW: There are NO security or option tabs within Nero that would allow changes...

-Thanks

They said that? Is this documented?

I never gave it much thought since it works on my own system (using an older version of Nero).

I may need to move them to Roxio 5 (without the Take-two option) or something else. To me, burning only as an Administrator make no sense....

I never had the problem with 5.5.1.8 but I just upgraded to 5.5.2.3 and I have it now.

Are you saying that you were able to burn a CD while not in Administrator mode? If so, explain...

DocDoo- Sorry for the delay, I wanted to take the time to thoroughly test it so I could give you a good analysis. I have always been able to burn CD's as a Power User with 5.5 and have never had any problems at all. However, I have never been able to use Wave Editor of Cover Editor unless I was logged in as an Admin. If I tried to use those as a Power User I get a message about "unable to find plug-in".
My first real "annoyance" has arisen since I upgraded to 5.5.2.3. Now when I login on my Power User account I get a message about "unable to access CD drives due to a registry entry, login as an Admin and run NeroCheck." However, I can still burn CD's after cancelling that screen. Figure that one out. Everything still works as advertised when I am logged in as an Admin.
Isn't there supposed to be a "Security" tab when you go to Preferences?? I was never asked during any install of 5.5 about security settings. Were you ever? Maybe this is an NTFS thing and my system is set up with FAT32.

Obviously, Ahead/Nero does not have all the issues worked out for use with Windows 2000. Let's cross our fingers that subsequent updates will square away these issues.

1) Your problem with Wave Editor sounds like it's because it uses files on a different folder on your drive that only has Administrator access.

2) I do not have a "Security" tab anywhere in Nero, nor was I ever asked anything when I first installed it on an NTFS drive.

3) Right. This seems like an easily fixable problem for Nero.

I will be making a Ghost image (for safety reasons) of their Win2K system and install Roxio 5.0 in place of Nero. Without the "Take-two" mind you :)

Make no mistake, I really like Nero 5.5 and it is my favorite CD burning program. CDRWin would be second. I just think that Nero needs to spend a little more time working out the NT based problems. Maybe this is easier said than done. That doesn't change the fact that there are many of us that are quite disappointed that the same problems still exist after every new update that comes out.:(
