Can someone enlighten me ?

Also ............. last year I bought a Creative 12/10/32 CDRW which came with NERO 5 ...................... Tried to install the Nero on the Plextor CDRW/DVD combo drive I just purchased & it said it would'nt install on anything but a Creative drive . Are they still doing this with the bundled NERO that comes with RW drives ?

Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure that the latest versions of Nero 5.5 that ship with OEM drives are drive specific. I know the version that shipped with my Lite On works only with that drive.

Yes the Nero's that ship with a drive is drive-specific... it wont work on any other drive...

Somehow it's coded into the serial number of Nero...

I just got a new LiteOn drive a month ago which comes with Nero, and that one is drive-specific as well...

The serial number seems to be the deciding factor on whether Nero will work with a particular CDRW drive. I have two serial numbers, both from paid for copies of Nero. One serial number installs the software from an installation CD or latest downloaded version as an OEM version, the other installs it as as a retail version.

For $20, you can upgrade the drive specific OEM version to a full version that will work on other drives.
