Nerdly reading list?

Looking for nerdly books only.

I've read:
Mein Kampf
Animal Farm
A whole bunch of other stupid classical/contemporary bullsh!t for school. Supposedly. It all sucked so bad I couldn't read it.

Examples of things that I havn't read, but should:
HHGTTG.

What else should I read?

I've been meaning to read that... Forever. Seriously, I have. I actually had the book at one point. Just never read the first page.

The Old Man And The Sea
Read it in school. Hated it. Give me 10 years to recover from the trauma of being forced to read something before you tell me to read it again and enjoy it.

It's kinda cool- hl2 and the Combine reminded me of it the other day- i could imagine the settings in 1984 looking just like City17

Only the first 3-4, not the awful cashing-in-on-the-estate books by the son.

The Odyssey
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Puddinhead Wilson and most everything else by Twain

Ender's Game

Check, check, check and check. Again, tainted by school syndrome. I'm looking for nerdly reading material, dammit! Stuff that raises questions about humanity and existance, and yet isn't a quantum physics textbook.

I think Dune is about as good as you can get when it comes to nerdly... that and A Brief History of Time

I think Old Man And The Sea is the only Hemingway book short enough to be bearable.

For "nerdy" books I would recommend the following sci-fi authors:
Arthur C. Clarke
Isaac Asimov
Phillip K. Dick
Frederic Pohl
Robert Silverberg
Neal Stephenson
Stanislaw Lem
Rudy Rucker

Most of these guys are respected scientists and mathematicians in addition to being entertaining writers.

You should also be reading lots and lots of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
