So, how do you think Voyager's journey through the Delta Quadrant would have differed if she were a Galaxy class starship instead of an Intrepid class starship? D:

Wouldn't have taken them so bloody long!

The Galaxy-class is slower. Warp 9.6 vs 9.975, IIRC.

Being older, larger, and a jack-of-all trades with 8 times as many mouths to feed contrasted to a dedicated long-range exploration vessel...

Drifting hulk.

Hmm, I could have sworn it would out manoeuvre and out speed the intrepid... :hmm: no idea why I thought that.

They would have been home by the end of the second episode and have learned a valuable lesson about the importance of following the prime directive.

Agreed. A Galaxy-class starship would have been far more difficult to keep running with all of the resources it and its crew would need.

There would have been no finger touching with Q. As a side note, a few months ago the EMH sang to me. He wrote the song himself, it was neat.

No crew comforts, no science facilities. I'm not even sure that in an absolute sense the Defiant has significantly more firepower than an Intrepid. For its size it's extremely powerful but I got the feeling that the Intrepid was pretty well decked out for her size.

I wonder if they could've crammed everyone into the drive section, and ditched the saucer module?

On the other hand, a bigger ship with more space and sciencey stuff available could have been useful as well - more storage space, or more space to turn into resource refineries, or something like that. And more well-educated talent to look to for ideas.

Alternative: Donner Party....in spaaaaaace.

1) Cloak
2) If problems arise, use pulse phasers
3) Re-cloak, and keep moving

Another option: Beam the tri-cobalt torpedoes onto the array on a timer, then get sent home by The Caretaker.

The Defiant was limited to warp 8 I think...

Look at the Galaxy class in terms of defensive capabilities it seems that most of the "hang ups" Voyager has would have gone better and not taken as much time. The first year against the Kazon for example... just plow through them.

There's a reason Starfleet vessels look the way they do.
<snip>
Well then realign the warp field or something.:p Heck, they showed the ship separating while at warp in the first episode, and the drive section then headed back, so the drive section should be able to get along on its own.
