Is it just me or is there no strafe left/right (like all new games use)?

The only thing I see is the strafe modifier which isn't anywhere near as good as being able to use the arrow keys to strafe and the mouse to go left/right because you can't use the mouse look while strafing.
 
If you are on dsl/cable/faster net connection, make sure your rate is around 8000+. This ia a major cause of frustration of "lag" people believe to be experiencing.

Hit '`' to go to the console, then type:
/rate 8000.00

8000.00 is pretty good for net connections. For LAN, 25000.00 is optimal.
