Just wondering, some of my friends say they are and some say they aren't. Who's right?

I have yet to see the movie but where were these neon lights mounted? I'm assuming outside the car under it to give the ground a glow - that's not illegal depending on the state and in a lot of cases, the city. You need to check with your local PD/city hall on that one.

yeah, it varies state to state and if the state doesn't care the county might or local PD might, better to have a on/off switch so in case a cop is behind you, u can turn it off...

I have a set of those, I haven't mounted them yet, according to the laws of New York state they aren't legal, I'd bet my money that they aren't legal in Texas as well... what I'd do if I where you is get a switch for them. Most kits do come with a switch... whatever you do, don't drive down a state highway or a state road with them on. Also... I've had a ticket for it... I had to pay a fine, total I had to pay $45 dollars... so that's the penalty if you get caught with them... do what you like.

In many states:
Lights other than white, red, or yellow/orange are not permitted.
Also lights coming from underneath a car are not permitted in a few states.

In my area, it's *supposedly* legal in Carrollton, Lewisville, and Flower Mound, but illegal in Dallas. (Cops are a-holes in FM so if they're bored enough I'm sure they'd fine you for something)
