neo2 platinum shorted out??

Hey there, I posted this on the "technical support thread" but I think it's a motherboard related problem so I'll try here as well I guess.

I bought a neo2 platinum w/ a 3200+ and installed it, everything was working fine except that it was rebooting whenever it would start to load windows XP (it had trouble loading "mup.sys" to be exact"....it was late so I left the problem till the next morning. I woke up and hit the power button and NOTHING happened. The case hadnt moved at all so I kinda ruled out static. I took the mobo out, laid it on some cardboard and connected ONLY the psu and the "on switch"....still nothing. Cleared the cmos etc...still nothing. Then we bring my friends computer up and try the psu in his...and HIS doesnt start up. So first off...could the motherboard (and all the other components I had connected to it ie a 6800 GT) have friend my generic "enlight" 420w psu?? The odder part is that we then hooked he old 350w "tigerpro" psu to the mobo on the cardboard and the fans started spinning to life! So I put it back in the case and reattached everything only to run into the problem I had before...no power. I was worried we had friend this psu as well until we put it back into his computer and things seemed to start up fine. I just want to know if this is a definite RMA, (I JUST bought it from monarch and they're usually very good about testing), OR if I should go buy a brand name psu (are new2 platinums really that picky)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...I start school in a few days and I dont want to wait 2 weeks or so for a new riiiiiiiiig. (whine)

yeah, I'd agree with you there....I'm just scared because in my situation, my 420w psu has been shot for one reason or another, and I don't want to risk killing my friend's psu (even if it is crappy), if I'm not going to be guaranteed a working combo.

stupid monarch...or msi...or me (if I'm not seeing something obvious)

There are alot of these boards with strange behavior. i.e., onboard hardware coming up m.i.a., failure to boot, failure to cold boot, memory slots that don't recognize any memory modules, etc... This board must have a short built into it somewhere!

If you have yours apart, take the cpu backplate off the bottom of your board to see if it's making a metal on metal contact anywhere. This would explain a short when the board is in or out of the case.

im leading to the conclusion that msi is overall trash quality, i have been through two boards and i am about ready to switch to something else, they just have so many stupidass problems that i never ran into with abit, or intel throughout the years. the performance might be the best in class, if you can wade through the bs of getting your board to work properly.

thats noy just MSI for your information, is just because the board is so popular, have you google search any of the other popular boards i.e Abit's Av8 , or Asus' A8v you'll be surprise how many issues they have as well, jut look at the a8n, there are also many pcs with not a single problem.
