I actually think Gorsuch is nowhere near fascist, much more libertarian in stance but in a way that totally ignores pragmatism and threatens to greatly facilitate the agenda of the more politically active conservative justices. I think his behavior lately has been seeking power, trying to take over the intellectual leadership of the new court. His decision not to wear a mask here is an absolute dick move personally and professionally. Taking a stance that you should not be compelled to wear a mask doesn't mean you should actively choose not to, thereby putting your coworkers at risk.

There is a story running that Roberts asked him directly and he refused. I'll have to track it down but it does appear that he has been asked and is refusing it out of spite.

If you are going to bitch about a story, try reading it carefully. The story said Roberts requested everyone wear a mask in deference to Sotomayor's diabetes which makes her high risk. What you quoted is not what was alleged.

The denials are probably also at the request of Roberts. Otherwise why would Sotomayor or Gorsuch go out of their way to even deny such a story. The only one interested in saving the appearance of the court has been roberts from day 1
