Sounds a bit like you're rationalizing... Just because others "on the block" are louder, I wouldn't care if I can't hear them. If you were next door to me and keeping me up (or her would be more likely as she can't sleep through anything...) at 12 and 1am, I'd not be a happy camper. I wouldn't be calling the police though. We had this when we took the apartment here... Thought we could stick it out 6 months and take our time finding a house. By the 2nd month, we were convinced BigFoot lives upstairs, and a pack of invisible wild animals runs up and down the stairs outside our door. Our solution -- buy a house where there's space between us and the next one.

Sounds like you're empathizing with them. Read the rest of my post where I said the security guards/police said they can't hear us right outside the door, let alone through a 14ft ceiling.

Ask the negihbors what they are complaining about, if they can't be "bothered" to tell you before calling the cops. See if they will let you in their appt. so you can hear what they are hearing, maybe it *is* loud. If not, complain to the appartment owners about harrasment. If it is, keep it down.

Start making friends , one by one eliminate the people who share a wall with you by befriending them. Leaving your suspects for last. Mostly likely you'll figure it out. Lots of people might be scared of a confrontation with you, doesn't make it right, but thats why they call the cops. It might have been one of the people you talked to, but they just didn't want to talk to you. It worked for me, so you might as well give it a try.
