Man, my neighbor had a pit bull puppy. IT was the cutest little thing. Around here where we live, we're far from the roads, so during the day he'd let the puppy stay outside. I got two lab mixes, and whenever I took them outside, that puppy would alwasy come over and play. She was a sweet dog.....and loved running after my labs. In the water, over the woods.....
I tried not to like it, since it wasn't my dog....but I couldn't help it. She'd just run right up to me and want to play. I've had a lot of puppies in my life, and have never been around a puppy that wasn't scared of anything....and she wasn't aggressive at all....always happy, and never scared. Even when my dogs would go swimming she'd jump right after them. And sometimes, out there messing around, she'd get dunked repeatedly....she'd swim in, nad hop right out for more.
I saw my neighbor tonight, and asked him where his puppy was. I could tell he was sad....he said he found her in the woods a day ago....just lying down and he could tell she was sick. He brought her inside, and by the time he was ready to head off to the vet, she had died.
The neighborhood we live in, my neighbor caty-cornered (different neighbor) is the president of the neighborhood association. That's the only bad thing about living here....the meetings always get a bit catty....because there's a lot of rules (a good thing-for land value).....but some of them are ridiculous. Case in point---There was a big disagreement several months ago, and the president had to step in and settle it. There's about 100 houses in this side of the neighborhood....and a lot of people weren't happy. He said about a week after the meeting, he came outside to find his dog sick....and looked around and found some dog food with antifreeze on it. Sadly, his dog was older, and died from the poisoning. I can't help but wonder if someone poisoned that little puppy. Either way, I miss that little ah heck and it wasn't even mine.
It's just amazing how easy it is to get attached to a little puppy, that's not even yours. Needless to say, my dogs are not going to be allowed to run free anymore (they stay inside anyway).....but I have a pen I built for them, and I'm doubtful of even using that. (And yes, even though my pen was approved, people have alrady complained about it).
Anyway. Very sad....I hope she wasn't poisoned, but I can't help but wonder if she was. She did run around a lot.
I tell ya....if I caught someone trying to feed my dog poison dog food or antifreeze, I'd be on them like white on rice.
