My mom equates Microsoft Word with Microsoft Windows, and when her Word shortcut disappeared (read, she accidentally deleted it) from the desktop she said Windows was gone.

I'm glad I don't live at home anymore.

i love when my mom calls me to help her with stuff, "i can't get into microsoft"

Here's mine

Me "OK Dad, now click on 'My Computer' "
D "I don't have that"
Me "You what?, yes you do, it's on your"
D "no I don't, I never had that"
Me "OK, look on your main desktop"
D "in the control panel?"
Me "no, where your 'My Computer' Icon is"
D "oh, there, ok"

People here refer to anything in or the whole case altogether as the CPU....

Tell your neighbor that his problem is somewhere between the seat and the keyboard ;)

Yea, I know. If their monitor BLEW UP, they'd be like something happened to my CPU.

Yeah, somebody in my writing class said that the other day. Wasn't worth the hassle to say anything, though.

My computer will occasionally hard reset on its own and then when it goes to boot the harddrive is found with instead of the wd identifier for the drive abunch of !$!%^@& are in there. I just reset the bios and it works again.

I had a CS prof who assigned us all our own computers.

The day before we needed to turn in a project to him we booted up our machines.

He deleted NTLDR.

"Your project requirements have just changed :D"

Great guy.

Guy told me windows was gone off his laptop. said it kept telling him to insert a system disk and strike any key. I told him to boot off his windows startup disk and at the A> to type sys c: then hit the enter key. when the system transferred message comes to reboot. Well today he said that didn't work then hands me the laptop and walks away. I booted off the startup disk typed sys c: hit return rebooted when it was finished and all was good again. Turned it off and cased it up walked down to his desk and handed it back. He said aren't you going to fix it? and i said it is fixed. all this took about 5 minutes. he turned it on and said wow that was quick let me buy you a coffee. I said wow i don't drink coffee but i do have a 30 dollar minimum so you give me 30 bucks and we will call it even. After he paid me (he looked real unhappy about that) he asked how i fixed it and i said i followed the instructions that i had written down for him the day before.

I regularly have people inform me that any storage medium is called "memory." As in, "I have 20GB of memory." Interesting how they happened to fit 20 different sticks of memory in their computer and get it to boot up correctly...
