My mom equates Microsoft Word with Microsoft Windows, and when her Word shortcut disappeared (read, she accidentally deleted it) from the desktop she said Windows was gone.

--> :frown: <--

I'm glad I don't live at home anymore.

I built a computer for a guy I used to work with. I regret it every day. he called me a few days ago because his cd-burner was broken. I go over there, and it was because he forgot how to use nero. he didn't even know how to copy form his a to c drive. he had disks from I think what was an 8088. single side single density. He was trying to figure out why the data was corrupted

ROFL so did I... I read it as "Neighbor left me a message says window is gone... good food... anyone else having this problem?"

I was thinking he broke into your house, raided the fridge and you wanted advice on how to keep him from doing it again. :p

Besides missing shortcuts other possibilities are:

1. Floppy in the drive
2. Unplugged power cable/turned off socket
3. Full screen DOS mode (Alt-Enter)
4. Turn on both the monitor as well as the PC
5. Stupid user in general

btw g/l :)

word to that! they don't have to pay you money, but then they force it upon you. then to their advantage the 50 bux they gave you is really valued at a couple 100.

edit: i mean, i don't mind helping people, but they take no initiative to actually learn the problems and keep calling you and bothering you...:disgust:

ROFL :D, Just called him @ work (i didint want to bother him last night when they were all in bed, he has a daughter) He said that his wife was checking some email when a bunch of pr0n poped-up. She instantly closed it and got off the computer, she left the computer running through the night, my buddy shut it down come morning time (yesterday morning) tried to boot it up last night and it said FAT32 is missing. :Q

I am about to go over there, before i do...anyone got suggestions of what this could be?

Just got back and here is the 411:

when i boot up his computer i get this error message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the orginal setup cd-rom. Select 'r' at the first screen to start.

I tried to insert the setup cd-rom, it doesnt even load. And yes the Cd-Rom is the first device to boot up in the BIOS. Anyone got ideas? I think i am going to have to re-load windows......

 :frown:

It really annoys me when people refer to any part of the computer as the "hard drive".
