Why do they face the roads where hundreds of cars drive by an hour? Do they not expect kids to hit it over the short fences? What's the logic here?

I've always seen it where the backstop is against a street corner.

I was in my dad's old neighborhood a few years back. They only had a half a baseball field in their neighborhood park. Right field only, no left field. I have no idea how they played there, but he said there was a ball game going nearly all the time.
