Moved into a new apt this past month and all is well. Nice neighborhood and ppl seem friendly. Now the ppl upstairs (i live on the first floor) has a little daughter (I'm assuming 3-5) that runs around and jumps or something throughout the day. It's hell and my cups would shake on the table. Anyways, I'm tempted to go upstairs and say something, but I realize kids will be kids. I'm not home during the day, but if I'm home watching tv at 7 at night I would like some peace and quiet after work. Do I have a right to say something?

Things are fine at night and I can sleep w/o any problems.

That's apartment living. Going to be hard to get a 3-5 yr old to settle down and you'll end up building animosity between the two of you.

Should get them back by doing something with my lady :D

The walls are pretty thin and I can hear the lady screaming at her daughter at times.

EXACTLY why i didn't want to do anything. I told my landlord and he told me to say something. Then if it gets worse or continues to occur, then he would say something. being confined to my bedroom sucks, because the kid normally runs around in the living room.

never again will i live under a family with kids.

Direct all complaints to the building mgr./ownership. Others may already have complained with the mgr./ownership. Your complaint will add to the evidence.

I had enough so I went upstairs to say something. To my surprise they were having some sort of family/friend get together.
The little rugrat was about 2 years old, and he said he would quiet things down. Well, all is well now, so I'm a happy campy. I would hate
it if it continues to happen. Don't have the urge to keep running upstairs.

Also, the third floor is occupy by working ppl with no kids. I wonder if they can hear all the crap that happens on the second floor.

I went through this after we had moved into a ground level apartment last November. The upstairs neighbor had two kids, 2 and 5, that loved to run around, jump up and down, and bounce a basketball all day/night.

It got really old really quick. After about the 3rd day of living there, I confronted them about it. Come to find out, the person that lived above me was the head of maintenence for the complex and was very embaressed. Despite that, nothing much changed until they moved a few months later. They would wake up at 6-7AM on Sat/Sun and run all over the damned place, causing a racket and waking up the wife. I confronted them about it a number of times and spoke with the complex too. They never really seemed interested in helping. So I started waking up every workday to Midtown and Bad Religion BLARING on my Z560s.

I am so glad that I live in a house now and that no one lives above/below me. It is a very comforting feeling.

What's the flooring like in the apartments? Do they have wooden floors? We've lived in an apartment before with wooden floors and we were required to provide a 75% coverage of carpets or rugs. However, I'd direct your complaint to the building manager.

Talk to them! Just ask nicely "could you ask your child to not rough house so much? It's to the point where the cups on my table shake...etc"

They'll probably say "We'll try to keep her from jumping like a little mexican jumping bean, sorry about the inconvenience"

and you'll be all set :D

The last thing I want to do is create animosity between me and the ppl upstairs. It's currently 10:40 on a sunday morning and they have the music blasting. Can't really say much about that, but I'm confined inside my own bedroom because my living room sounds like a concert hall!

If the kids continue to annoy me then I'm going to the property manager again. Besides, get this ... when I first told him about my issue, he said the ppl that lived upstairs was this one family that had three kids. I told him that's impossible cuz I hear one "baby" running around, not three sets of feets. He went on and said it's totally impossible because the other family doesn't have a kid. It's just the wifey and hubby (he wasn't sure becuz he thought the bigger family was above me, but they live on the other side).

So now wut? I rat them out and they get pissed.

I've lived in apartment for 6 years now, 2 different ones, and I've never had a problem with noise from my upstairs neighbors.

YOU ALWAYS WANNA BE ON TOP!! I'm the noise. :D

My neighbor across the hall likes to play his stereo LOUD but i just drown it out with my tv or stereo. We work opposite hours so it's not a problem while i'm sleepin he's at work and vice versa. Only once did the person under me complain when i moved in here. They banged on the ceiling with a broom I guess, so i just stomped right back at them so they knew I heard them. :p

I tried that but I figure its rude so I decided to confront them instead.
