So, if anyone remembers my threads about how I did an engine swap on my CRX, we just finished everything up today. We were basically working on suspension and exhaust trying to make it as good as possible so we could go run it on the street to see if anything needs tuning. The way my yard works is that we had to go parellel to my house, then down into our lower lot and then into the street. That was fine and when we got on the road all seemed well. Unknowingly to us (I was with about 5 other people) my neighbors despise teenagers and their vehicles.
As we were in the street the car was just sitting there as we checked everything and such. It was around 10pm, and all of a sudden my neighbor that lives next to our lower lot comes out and starts swearing and raising hell saying how we drive too fast and were endangering their kids of something. We kind of blow this off knowing that this car hasn't been out of the garage since the end of last winter so it sure wasn't us racing around down on his street. I will admit that the exhaust is louder then stock cars, but it was no where near what rice exhaust is like. This was a full catback system from Buddy Club. We drive the car down that street, up the next and then back to my house so we can put it in the upper garage and adjust the clutch cable and such. This is where the fun begins.
The neighbor of the neighbor comes up in his new escalade and he starts raising even more hell stating the same reasons the other guy did. He's swearing and saying some generic stuff you would probably just go "wtf" to. We listen and my friend Andy who helped a lot on the car explains that we were just moving the car since to the top garage. He doesn't listen to anything Andy says (he tries telling him we went a max of 4mph). So after some yelling from his part and us trying to calm him down and rationalize the situation he just leaves and we figure it's over. Apparently it wasn't.
We have the car in our driveway and were putting the silencer on the car to make it as quiet as possible so we don't possibly disturb anyone else. A car starts coming up our hill and I figure that it's just someone that lives here. However, I could tell from a distance that it was a V8 for sure and that it was not any car from this era. As it gets closer we realize that it's the guys restored late 60's GTO. He stops right in front of our driveway where we are all standing and just revs the engine to 6000rpm or so, which at that point was loud as F#*%. The time is now around 10:30 or 10:45pm and instead of trying to resolve the situation he just flaunts his car (it was nice but not very practical for anything besides car shows and occassional driving in the summer). So then he starts talking to my other friend Jim and everyone in general while I was getting a bolt/nut to keep the silencer in.
He says that his C6 corvette could smoke any car that was parked outside my house and that while he "loves fast cars...but making a drag strip out of the street is not acceptable". So, we took this as a challenge and Jim almost gets to the point where him and the guy would race his corvette against Jims car (MX-6 pushing mid 300's at the wheel). I assume they were talking about the track up in Owego but the conversation never amounted to anything. My dad was out listening the whole time to everyone swearing and yelling and when the guy came back with the GTO my dad just asked about the goat and such. Apparently, when they were talking, my dad found out that they had mistaked us for someone else who speeds down their road a lot...so everything that happened was pretty much worthless. That still doesn't explain the first guy that yelled at us though and why he threatened to call the cops on a street legal car.
So in the end we just put the car in the top garage, found out that there was a coolant leak near the heater core and that one of the washers for the new suspension was upside down in the rear causing it to rattle. At the beginning of the night I was pumped about this...but now Im just bummed out. I worked on this car for about 6 months and the first minute it's out we get F'ed. Horrible
