Downloading it now. I heard the voice acting is only German, which is disappointing. Oh well, looks very interesting.

Thanks for the link!

Edit: by the way, Strategy Informer was the best download mirror for me. All of the others were estimating 3+ hours, while Strategy Informer was ~30 minutes. 600MB downloaded so far out of 1.6GB.

They keep calling this a total conversion, but it looks like it offers the exact same game play as Oblivion. Maybe I'm being nit picky, but I wouldn't even come close to calling it a total conversion.

I think by "total conversion" they mean the entire story line, characters, setting (map), quests, etc. have all changed. Essentially, you're playing a completely different game that looks similar to and works just like Oblivion. Changing how game play mechanics work (such as how you swing a sword, how hits are calculated, how the player interacts with objects and surfaces, etc.) would required changing the game engine itself, which I highly doubt they have access to.

That would be fine, but the new map and characters look almost exactly the same as Oblivion. On top of that, the gameplay seems almost identical as well.

As I already said, I was just being nit picky as it's a rather meaningless label, so it doesn't really matter. A total conversion to me however, is something more like The Dark Mod, Counter Strike, or The Haunted.

I won't have access to my main comp for awhile so I won't be able to see how this plays.

However, even if everything looks like Oblivion, if it plays better, being similar isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Ok, I see where you're coming from now. Good point.

After dealing with Oblivions JUNK stock leveling system, experience-based leveling is a welcome change, IMO. In fact, when I play Oblivion (modded to hell and back), I used an experience-based leveling mod.

The original system was bad... very bad. I used nGCD which works nicely for levelling the player (OOO for levelling the monsters). [GCD for morrowind]

To motsm's point, this would actually be called a partial conversion. The term total conversion was used for mods that entirely changed the game they were built off of. Like Quake Rally, the mod that took an FPS shooter and turned it into a racing game. Another example is Alien Doom, because, while still being a shooter, it changed all textures, enemies, etc into a new game. They were called total conversions because the source game was barely recognizable.

Ya... I noticed the Ayleid ruin meshes were reused.

I've been playing this for the last week or so. This is what Oblivion should have been IMO. Non-scaling enemies, interesting story line, unique loot, dungeons that don't contain the same old boring auto-generated level scaling chests, and the list goes on.. Finally a reason to actually explore the world!

I definitely recommend picking this one up if you can get past the German voice acting. Hasn't really bothered me yet, however, i've mostly just been exploring the landscape thus far and haven't gotten too deep into the story.

English subtitles? My German isn't good enough to get everything, though I do love to watch German TV online sometimes, it's pretty entertaining.

Yeah there are english translations for almost everything, though you can find some untranslated scrolls and stuff here and there.

I've played a good bit of it, and it's very well done and entertaining. Maybe a little thin on the side quests, and some variations in the music would be nice.
