Ugh, what an ugly-looking stock cooler. Looks like the red-headed stepchild of the Zalman clan.

Why the clear fan? Those are sometimes louder/more prone to vibration than the softer, opaque plastics. That had better not be an LED fan. No finger guards on the fan either.
 
Wow, I can see someone calculating exactly how many copper vs Aluminium fins to use to minimize cost while providing adequate cooling. Which is actually pretty neat.

PS: wtf, google chrome spellcheck tries to "correct" it to aluminum...
 
Imagine the amount of power the fan is going to require to force air out. Without casing the resistance is going to be horrendous . It should have some sort of casing around the fins.

Any news on the pushpin design. i hope they ditch.
 
the new chip on the block sure has a lot of pins. The HSF actually looks pretty nice, but I personally would never use the retail HSF in any case. They also should put a fan guard around that HSF, the fan feels like something that will catch your fingers easily.

We USA folks have done many things to butcher your language. Settling on Davy's second name for aluminium (aluminum) instead of Davy's third attempt to name it aluminium is but one example.

But yeah, that's why chrome is correcting you. Don't worry about it... people read so fast on the internet that they already know what you are saying and have moved onto the next word before they notice you are from across the pond. If you wouldn't have put that extra blurb in about the spellcheck thing, I would not have noticed that you used the Brit spelling 🙂 - not that it matters!

My understanding is that this is more like one of those things that the US does all on its own...in other words its not a Brit thing its a US thing.

Brits and the rest of the world refer to Al as aluminium (just as the rest of the world uses metric system) and only the USA insists on not having that extra "i" in there just as we insist on measuring things in inches instead of centimeters, etc.

My expectation is that for Chrome (have not used it myself) you need to change the language option from English (USA) to English (UK) and you'll probably get back your extra letters (aluminium, colour, grey, etc).

As the saying goes:

aluminum is almost gray in color

aluminium is almost grey in colour

Anyone have an idea on how long it normally takes the aftermarket to push their new coolers/components for a new CPU/MB? I'm going straight to Nehalem from S939 but not until all the parts are in place.

Developers can clip on little things directly to it to debug a chip.

You never see this on retail but you'll see it on earily and i mean really earily ES's.

so im ROFLing at that article, cuz that is nowhere close to retail production grade.

More like a sample sent out to a tester. :T
 
I actually am an American, I just remember my chemistry and -ium is in line with chemical nomenclature.
Anyways, according to wiki, the US and Canadia are the only TWO places that drop the I.
