Hi all,

As we all know Nehalem is near finished, and officially the release is slated for Q4 2008, but I was wondering if any more accurate date is known?

My workstation currently has a Q6600, and as I can use every bit of performance I'm trying to decide between upgrading to a Penryn now or waiting for Nehalem. If it gets released on October 1'st there's no point getting a Penryn, while if it's released on December 31'st or (god forbid) it slips to 2009 I might as well upgrade and stick with the Penryn a bit longer.

Seeing the many X58 boards, and the many working Nehalem engineering samples, I'm under the impression that everthing's actually done and ready. They just seem to be waiting so they can build up plenty of stock and to prepare a flawless launch. With little threat from AMD they don't have to rush, and to follow the tick-tock plan they have to concentrate on selling Penryn for another half a year.

Anyway, enough bla, does anyone know some more hard facts about Nehalem's launch date, half-reliable gossip site articles, or downright clueless guesses?

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks for the link but it's not exactly the same. I just need a date to decise whether or not I'll wait, while that thread is more concerned about future socket compatibility. I want one as soon as it's available, that's not the question. But I'll buy a 1000$ Penryn if it's still a full 6 months away, if it's 3 months I can't justify that expense...
