Negotiating on a car.... (I know theres a garage forum, but topic regarding negotiating)

It has 92,000 km on it. I test drove it and it drove well, felt well. I want it. I took $4,500 cash with me and had shown him it, he declined and walked away. I spoke with him a lil more and said he'd only do $6,500 (this is all Canadian Dollars btw). I'm thinking of calling him back and saying $5,500 cash and I'll pick up right away.

What would u say? Any other way of negotiating? (I'm new to negotiating! 😛)

Sounds like you are on an "impulse buy" high.

Wait a few days. Continue looking. That is of course if you can wait.

Negotiate sexual favors? Other than barter type stuff, just work your way up in how much until you two meet.

lol was just trying to get the negotiating ball running.. and Ive heard of people getting a car for a really low offer when they took cash with them..... BTW Wholesale value is $4,700 in the condition he has it in

ive sold all of my vehicles, i dont trade in.
ive gotten several lowball offers and they have made me far less inclined to budge on price with an individual.

I doubt anyone would try to rob me, I'm 6'0", bench 230lbs, and can definitely handle myself.

Anyways I just called him back, told him $5,500 cash today, he said I dont know, I said you have my number call me back if you'll accept thats all. $5,500 is the most I'm willing to go.

you should negotiate to take the vehicle to a mechanic before you hand over your cash.

Definitely, My mechanic lives very close to him, so before I sign anything or physically hand over the cash, I'm gonna have him (my mechanic) go over and do a once over...

Yep same here. I get lowballed on stuff i sold on craigslist and I don;t even replay and I delate anymore e-mails they send without looking. Never had a problem selling anything.

OP what he offered was the best you will get. So either take it or leave.

FYI, most people who commit robbery are armed and I don't mean arms like your 'pythons'.

Nope, never. Reread what the OP said. The guy asked $6500. After walking away he then said $5500. I doubt he will get any lower then that. I am surprised the guy will even talk to him now.

You would be surprised. Mustangs (at least in this area) aren't the best selling vehicles...

Typically if you overpay you never find out if you overpaid, unless you have a mind-reading device.

Ummm...not going to happen.

If you are low balling like that, its "here's your cash, see ya later bro" kinda deal. You really don't know what you are doing huh?
