Tried that, and it didn't work! But .. (I did a Stage 3 with GRP) the "emerge -k gnome" process did, and I'm now posting from a Gnome desktop! w00t!

This is fun! I was debating whether to do this or wait until Mandrake 7.2 ISOs were publicly available, and I decided to get my hands dirty. I'm glad I did.

Hmm...any reason to use gentoo over redhat, mandrake or debian? Actually, I'm quite happy with Knoppix live CD right now, but I'm sure I'll be installing linux again and I might want to try something new. I had bad experiences with lycoris, so that's out.

Mandrake 7.2 came out like 4 years ago man 🙂 (I know you meant 9.2)

bah, stage 3 with GRP... Stage 1 all the way 😀

Gnome is better than KDE anyways; stick with it 🙂

1337n355 factor really. With gentoo you have the option to completely compile absolutely everything from source yourself. It's highly customizable and you get complete control over everything.
