neet cat6 cables for gigabit networking?

I'm currently using 100mb networking with cat5e cables. Thinking about upgrading to gigabit. Do I need to change the cables to cat6? Hopefully not! And can I just get a gigabit switch and keep the existing router? Thanks for any help and info.

Connect all of your computers with gigabit nic to the gigabit switch and you will have your gigabit connectivity between those machines. Hang the switch off of the builtin switch on the router for your internet connectivity through the router (assuming you're using something like a WRT54G).

Short lengths of Cat5e are fine, but Cat6 should be used for any long runs. Are you really needing gigabit? You will still get gigabit speeds, just not as reliable.

The SimpleTech seems to have an abnormally large number of bad reviews on Newegg.com and Amazon.com. It's now listed as a "Deactivated Product" there...whatever that means. I also can't find it listed on SimpleTech's web site anymore as a product.
