What kind of motherboard do you have? Does it have a "Soft-menu" in the bios to set CPU parameters?

OK I'm getting some help from the wizkid on our forum ,i got my 440BX P3B-F board to boot to manual in the advance 366 ,it goes to 366 to 550 and the manual ,i did flash the bios awhile back and its a reviesed 1004 bios ,i tried to start it at 550 and an alarm went off so i i tried to up the cpu voltage two notches and it sounded the alarm again so i rebooted and it went into safemode so i had to put it back to 366 ,i'm waiting on a alpha 125 that was supposed to be delivered mon. so now it's suppose to be friday ,anyway my cpu is under the threshhold so i don't know if that has something to do with it or not any ideas !!!!! maybe i made a setting on the board that wasn't suppose tobe don't know !!!! Thanks

I don't have your MB but it sounds like this alarm goes off when the clock speed or FSB speed you selected doesn't match what the bios detected the CPU to be. Look in the Bios in the CPU area and see if there isn't an entry to disable something that causes the Bios to check the CPU speed against your actual settings.
Why do you use the word "manual"? Is that the name shown as an entry in your Bios?

Why do i use the word manual !!this is because when my cpu shows up as either a 366 or 550 or manual in the bios my motherboard is either set to manual or to jumperless ,jumperless lets me enter where i can set the speed of the cpu if i new how Thanks do you have any ideas !!!!i'd appreciate it -thanks again

You mean like set the bus speed at 100. Set the clock multiplier at 5.5x. Set the AGP/FSB ratio at 2/3. Set the PCI/FSB ratio at 1/3. That sort of thing? These are the settings you need to run a 366@550 mhz. (don't forget to raise the voltage to about 2.2v) I suppose that "manual" would mean that you accomplish the same thing with jumpers or dip switches. See the motherboard manual if you have one.

Only thing else I can suggest is to try 2.3 volts, Try a good heatsink and fan with good thermal compound like artic silver. Also try these settings for running at 412mhz. Try 75 FSB speed, AGP/FSB = 1/1 and PCI/FSB = 1/2 and see if it loads windows just fine. It should, If it doesn't then you still have some obscure Bios (like "Speed error hold" if it was an Abit board) setting wrong or you have PC66 ram or something simple like that. Obviously not all 366's will run at 550. What's the history on this chip? Did it ever run at 550?
