Needs some advice on a card

GF's PC went kablooey last night so I'm building her a new one.....I have an old Asus A7M266 MB in the closet and I just ordered an Athlon XP 1800+ to put on it. She will only be using it for school work, she's working on her Masters, so I need a card with excellent 2D desktop performance but I don't care how it will look in games. Suggestions?

Just about any AGP card you can get that works with that mobo will do for 2D work.

That's what I was thinking. Any particular model? Don't want to spend a lot on it.

Matrox G550 ,,excellent image quality and cheap 🙂.

If you're going for Matrox, the G550 is a good card, and probably one of the cheapest you can get. Alternatively, you can grab a G400/G400 Max, but there are several versions of it, some one which are not fully AGP4X compatible and require 3.3V, hence are not compatible with newer motherboards supplying only 1.5V to the AGP slot.
