Needing info on VIA KM266 chipset

Greetings all,

I'm getting ready to build a comp for a friend of mine and his budget is very tight.
I've been looking at getting a Shuttle motherboard with the KM266 intergrated ProSavage Grahpics.
What I would like to know is this:

-- Is the chipset a reliable and stable chipset, even with the intergrated graphics??

-- Or would I possibly be better off buying an FIC motherboard with an ATI intergrated graphics chipset??
(anyone have any knowledge of how the ATI chipset runs??)

Any and all feedback will be greatly appreaciated. 😀

The Asus A7N266-VM would be worth a look too. The integrated 3D video has significantly better 3D performance than the integrated ProSavage on the KM400 edit: doh, I meant KM266. It's highly stable and reliable with Win2000 or WinXP (got some at work, two at home) and is about $72-ish. The onboard audio is very good too, full nVidia SoundStorm with 5.1 analog and digital outputs (both RCA and optical digital, too). A7N266-VM. People sometimes find it's fussy with Win98.

The KM400 does NOT have the ProSavage. The KM266 does. The KM400 has the new Chrome something?

But I agree. If he is going to play any games go with the A7N266-VM, or get a cheap nForce2 IGP board.

Ooops! :Q My bad, I think my clutch is slippin' upstairs... 😕 Yeah, KM266.

I certainly would not buy a KM266 based motherboard with the intent to game with the on-board graphics. The performance is pittifull. Nor would I buy the Ati for the same reason. I would either buy the KM266 and a cheap nvidia/Ati video card to go with it. Or I would buy the cheapest nForce2 motherboard that uses the IGP chipset and run dual channel to get the best performance from the on-board graphics.
