Hoping someone could help me
recently built my own computer, got it hooked up and working. The next day i am playing a game and i hear a noise and i think i saw a light in the case and my compuer shut off. The power supply was junk so i replaced it with a expensive one. I put the good one in and now the lights and temp display in front light up fans turn on and also my door slider works, but the power button and the optical drive do not do anything. I have no clue what to do.

Thanks

This is not a good thing:( Nothing is as bad as your new computer going down. First check all power connections set them snugly into there slots. Was the sound you heard a beep coming from the system board? Was the light you saw sparks or the motherboard light? Please send all the info on this problem and your system specs as you can. As for now that is the only help I can offer without more info.

What is 1mhZ front side bus? Dude if that is the speed of your FSB thats very slow. I know that no P4 cpu has a 1mhz FSB. :D

About the PSU blowing up. LOL..... Not good! is that also the flash you saw? I hope not!
Well if you heard a boom and saw a flash and your PSU did blow up, well you can kiss most of your new PC goodbye. Because a "die-ing" PSU can take components like the MoBo and CPU with it and the GPU H.D.D's and any PCI cards. Please note it may not be that your PSU blew up but thats what it sounds like. You will need to test each component of your PC sepratly to see if they work properly. Yes the voltage ripples of a 'blowing-up" PSU can destroy the sensitive electronics of your PC.

Try explainig everything that happened in the clearest detail so I can sort through the facts again.

ah hahaha im sorry was typing fast m 1000 * fsb :p

okay i basicaly know it was the psu because i took it in to get tested and it did not work.

okay well here it goes

Playing Everquest 2 for about 3 hours when i hear a wierd noise sorta of loud then i think i saw a flash of white inside the case the computer shut off.
i tried turning it back on but nothing happened. i switched the on and off button on my psu and all that worked was the red botton on the psu. i bought a new expensive psu, hooked it up and i pushed the psu button and it looked like it was working the lcds fans and the sliding door were working, but the main power button did not do anything and the optical drive would not open. My uncle , who is great with working with windows, but not the best at hardware checked out the comp, he said he did not see any connections put back in wrong or messed up hardware. well if worse comes to worse i have warranties for everything but such a hassle i miss eq2

You probly fried your motherboard, and or CPU or both, and they may have taken other components with them. If your parts are on a warrantie than you need to return them if you know they don't work. Note: it is veery unlikley that you will see when a component is damaged, you may smell it. If your PSU fried after 2 hours of operation (or so) than you need to tell the company that they sold you a bad PSU. And if it fryed your hardware (verry likley) than they owe you some money. You need to talk to them about this. No "el cheapo" PSU should ever fry your pc after 2hrs of operation. So if your PC will not boot and only shows power LED's and fans and opening case door (normal for a properly running PSU) Than your CPU is most likley fryed and mabie your MoBo and memory. Check all components sepratly in another PC if they work good, if not return them.
