Is there any way to make a batch file that will eject the cd-rom tray from DOS? I know theres programs to do this in Windows, but what about DOS?

The batchfile has nothing to do with it. You just need to find the program then it'd be a one line command which defeats the purpose of a batch. I have no clue where to find that program.

Buttons? Theres buttons on this thing.....Whoa!! There is!! Lookie there, I'll be..... But, assuming I dont trust the button...I've heard it will sometimes shoot the cd at you, which is dangerous, so i really need to use a command line to open the cd rom...Those buttons...Can't ever trust'em....

I remember seeing a long time ago a program that would eject the cd from dos,Think it came with an old SB16 card i had,I was running dos6.2 at the time.

There are some dos programs that can eject from dos, might be a bit hard to find.:(

Anyone remember that Razor1911(I think) "Christmas" program that gave you a "drink holder"? hehe
I don't remember if that program was DOS based or windows based...

the dos command in 6.22 would unlock the tray so you could eject it with the button in the event of a system nasty. I don't know what comand if any would motor the tray out.

there is a file that actually does this, it's called, sit down for this, eject. comes in either exe or com form. i have no idea where you can find this now. my isp is messed and slow so i cant really look now. i used to use it quite frequently on my older computers. just throw it in your path and hit eject and voila. there are probably some programs out there (for dos) that would still come with it (perhaps a cd player of some sort or cd driver disk).

I know there's a way. I have a huge-ass book called "the secret guide to computers" 22nd edition. It's a fairly old edition, but I just might be able to find it in there.

I know there is a way. i used to do it. There's also a way, through DOS, to "lock" the door so neither the button or the DOS commands to open/close the tray door work until it is "unlocked." :D

...let me go look. Give me a few minutes...

okay, I didn't find anything in the book about DOS commands for opening/closing the CDROM tray.
But, like I said, it's an old book. It talks about Win95, but 98 wasn't out when this edition was written.

Let me go snooping around in DOS to see if I can find it on my own.
If you go into c:\, look for a CDROM directory. On my old computer there was one. That's where the commands for opening/closing the tray were.

lemme see if this machine is setup the same way, or close even...

nope, didn't find it on my PC. Sorry I couldn't help. It's frustrating cuz I know it can be done. :|
