Needing assistance purchasing a digital camcorder or camera...

Hey guys! I need lots of help! pleeeeeeeease ;-)

im on the market to purchase either a digital camcorder or a digital camera.
[for cameras]
I heard lots of good things about the Olympus D-40 Zoom. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Here are some questions i have about digital cameras:
- how many decent pictures can i take with a memory stick? (i konw these come in differnet sizes. just general inquiry)
- how long does the battery last?

[for camcorders]
ive asked around and i heard that Sony makes exceptional ones. I was looking at the Sony DCR-TRV30 and some other Sony models but im not sure what to look for.
Basiclly i just want somthing nice, not too big, to take videos with and snapshots (like a digital camera).

Here are some other questions i have:
- what is MPEG mode?
- if i dont record in MPEG mode where does the captured video go?
- Do only pictures (like in snapshot mode) go onto the memory stick?

Thanks
Reza [confused]

Nice post. Well the Olympus digital camara has a 4.0 megapix resolution, which is a lot better than 1.3. 😉 And Sony camcorders are usually considered the best.

This post will probably not help much, but hopefully this bump will help get some of the more experienced users to help you out.

Good luck.

I can't tell ya anything about the Olympus digital camera you have selected, I use an HP 315. It is good enough for me.

The Sony camcorder on the other hand is a great choice. I love mine, but if you are going to buy a separate digital camera then don't bother getting a Megapixel CCD digital camcorder. It just is not necessary for taking videos, I think it is there just to improve the digital still quality. The JVC line of MiniDV camcorders also rocks.

Right now ive gone back to thinking of getting a digital camcorder.
Im currently looking at the Sonys: DCR-TVR30, DCR-PC9, and the DCR-TRV17.

Im going to BestBuy today to check some of these out in person and im thinking of purchasing one temporarily just to see how it goes.

Hey hey!

i went to bestbuy today and purchased the Sony Sony DCR-TRV30. Im going to return it though becuase i can get it at a LOT better price off pricewatch.com. I like the features and the images it takes are amazing. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to convert the DV tape onto an MPEG on the computer. When i installed the camera drivers it made a drive to access the memory stick. i was wondering if the same was possibile for the DV tape; or if there was a way to extract the DV tape onto MPEG format on the computer.

Thanks for any help

Reza [less confused now]

OKAY i think ive made a descision.

I think im going to return the SONY TRV30 and just get a ~3.0megapixel digital camera with a big memory stick.

Any suggestions?
