I'm not trying to start an nVidia vs. ATI thing, but wondering what the best all-around video card will be for less than $150. I'm in no hurry as i'm awaiting Intel to verify employment...so if there's a black friday deal on the horizon, then that's fine. :D
Ideas? Suggestions?

Hmm what do videocards have to do with anything Intel vs ATI?

In any case, the best card for 150$ would be a 7600GT or something along those lines, maybe a X1800GTO.

Yeah @ your price range best bet would be 7600gt, its equal or better to x1800gto, unless u wanna play oblivion, then x1800gto is faster.

Any rumors as to Black Friday specials or Christmas specials?
Also, is one brand preferred over the other when it comes to the 7600 series?

His motherboard is an Asus K8V SE, which has an AGP Slot. X1800GTO and 7600GT is PCI-Express.

I would recommend this X850pro 256mb AGP:

My current motherboard is, yes, but i'm getting the Intel motherboard that's part of the Retailedge package. I'm looking for a videocard for it.

Sapphire X1800GTO 256mb PCI-Express for $160.

I'm getting the Intel® Desktop Board DG965WH motherboard w/the E6300 cpu. I'm looking for a PCI-e video card.
Now, with that settled, what's this talk about Direct X 10? If I go the ATI route, will I be ok?
I'm also dual-booting w/Ubuntu Linux, so i'll need a Linux-friendly video card as well. So I assume drivers might be an issue.

If you're going for Linux, stay FAR AWAY from ATI. Their drivers frankly suck (understaffed in that area, but we have mighty respect for the few writers). I'd go for a nice 7600GT :)

Is there a noticeable overall performance difference between the 7600GT, the 7900GS & the 7900GT?
Can any/all be modded easily/successfully?

Im in the same situation, trying to choose a good card...was chosing between the x850xt and 7600GT...the x1800GTO doesnt seem worth it, the x1650XT isnt here yet, and though the 7900GS and x1950Pro are very tempting i just dont have the cash.... :(

x1950pro seems to be the uber deal right now for just keeping up untill DX10 cards come out... if i wasnt more concerd w/ making my car nicer i would have me a pair w/ a E6400 setup.
