My hard drives are chained with the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 ATA133 as Master and an older WD 80GB ATA100 as Slave. The Maxtor was using UDMA 6 (ATA133) and the WD was UDMA 5 (ATA100) in Windows. But I wanted both to use UDMA 5, so I downloaded Maxtor's UDMAUPDT.EXE. I asked that it set my Maxtor to UDMA 5, but it said that the Maxtor doesn't support UDMA 6 and automatically defaulted to UDMA 4 (bad programming model IMO-should ask user first before setting). Now the Maxtor uses UDMA 4 and the WD uses UDMA 5.
I think Maxtor has an UPDATED version of UDMAUPDT.EXE (or some other programs) that can recognize and set newer Maxtor to UDMA 5/6. However, Maxtor so far hasn't replied to a single email I sent (about four in the past few two weeks). And google wasn't too helpful. Anyone can send me an updated version or linky? Contact via PM or here.
