Needed services for links in mail to open browser

About a month ago, I reset some Windows services to either disable or manual, to relieve so many running processes.
Now, for the last two weeks, I've noticed I can't click on a link in my ThunderBird mail client to open browser to view it.
And last night, I had a notice that my Webroot SpySweeper had available updates for the main proggie, and when I click on "update program" link, the cursor turns into an hourglass for a second, and "done" appears in SS window, but no browser is launched.
However, all my AV's and can connect and check for virus signature updates.
So, it's not a connection problem, just a launch browser problem.
I use FireFox as default browser, and checked all settings there, and they seem good. I can click a link in my GMail mail (at GMail site) and it opens new Tab, like it should.
I also have IE installed, but it's not default browser. Settings there also seem fine.
What I need is someone to check over my services, to see if they can identify which one I need to change.
Thanks
