NEEDED POLL: How do YOU express time when you relate minutes before the hour?

This needs to be resolved. Some say that expressing 8:55 as "5 of 9" is more dominant and broadly understood in the English-speaking world than "5 till 9," "5 'til 9," "5 until 9," or "5 to 9." Regional or no, I say they are flat out wrong as I have not heard it once in my life all over the USA until my sister said itin SoCal. A quick survey and no one else in SoCal knows what she is talking about either.

Yes, I am aware that it is worded such to total all the alternates AGAINST the "of" usage, but part of my point is that they can be figured out or understood without every having heard it before.

Problems with the economy NEED to be resolved. Not this. One thread about it is MORE than enough.

Hmm... I don't see the poll options though I certainly added them. Is it just because I'm the OP? Do you see them?

1. No poll.

2. I would usually just say "eight fifty five". Other than that, I sometimes say "five to nine" or "quarter to ten" or "ten minutes to nine".

EDIT: now there's a poll, but it's fucked.
