Miss Maxwell, who is a full-time carer to her son Aiden, said yesterday: "It is absolutely pathetic. "I have had a paddling pool outside the front of my flat every summer for 24 years, ever since Aiden turned one year old.
"full-time carer?" is this just a language difference that i don't understand? the article implies that he's 25? in any case, it's nice to see that we (the US) aren't the only nanny state.

A young entrepreneur who does the cleaning even the advertising. And it is paying off.
advertising? that takes it at least one level past the ordinary lemonade stand. i wonder how much extra traffic and litter they were creating. they should probably try to get their lot re-zoned in addtion to getting the permit. while possible, i doubt their house is in a commercial zone.

She cares for him full time, so she's a full time "carer". He must have conditions that need her to take care of him I suppose. Or maybe he lives in the basement. 90% of the guys here knows how that goes. ;)

Just this weekend I also read an article about an individual who was stopped in the UK for.....wait for it.....Having the countries flag on display in his car.

Yes, the was told to hide the flag or be fined.

Europe is big on anti-nationalism, unlike the US. My uncle moved to the Netherlands several years ago and flew a dutch flag on his new place. The neighbours told him that it was illegal to fly the flag except for on a few special days of the year. He flies a Canadian flag now.

Europe realized a long time ago that unbridled nationalism only leads to bad things.

Bad things=testosterone and willingness to not roll over and take it up the arse whenever you're told too?

Sounds like the issue is that she put the pool in a public place. If she had put it on her own property, she wouldn't have had a problem. Yeah, it's just 2 ft deep, but the city has to cover its ass. You can drown in a 2 ft pool, and then the city gets sued for allowing an unguarded pool on public property.

The pool was on her own property.

I really hate the UK. I really hope that the US is looking at them as a good example of what not to do.

Sounds to me like the pool was in the communal garden near her property, not on her property.

I took a closer look and the article mentions a "communal garden" so you might be right about that. It's still ridiculous though. I understand CYA and but it seems quite obvious that whatever law is involved with this issue needs to be amended. Typical UK..

I really hope not. It just seems so pointless to look at it that way. :(

The question is are you willing to go to jail over it though? Some of those council members will stop at nothing to enforce nonsense rules.
